"Aix" is the latest work from Italian artist Giuseppe Ielasi and the follow-up to 2007's "August" on 12K. Ielasi relied heavily on numerous short samples and combining them in ways that fell into his groove; some found from others' recordings and many more recorded during the past year. We hear fragments of percussive (acoustic) objects, drums, piano, trumpet, guitar, and, of course, synthetic textures.

L'Ocelle Mare is the solo project from Thomas Bonvalet, guitarist from Cheval de Frise who almost approaches the guitar in the same manner Cecil Taylor did the piano. While playing his classical acoustic guitar, he taps his feet feverishly and purposely, along with his compositions. His techniques are all quite unconventional, yet positively original. Comes in a very limited edition.

Tape is a trio from Stockholm, building their music from a whole array of acoustic instruments, computer and field recordings. Their first CD "Opera" got excellent reviews in international press and was compared to artists such as Talk Talk, Gastr del Sol, Fennesz, John Fahey and Faust. "Milieu Plus" is peaceful, slightly melancholic, impressionistic without sounding tentative.

Well-crafted songs from a postmath, postrock perspective. There are some well-orchestrated pieces within this CD that make it very beautiful. Nace takes his experiences from Drill For Absentee, with help from folks also from DFA, New Wet Kojak, and Shudder To Think, and puts out a grade "A" product that is relaxing and refreshing.

As overall songwriting goes, the group is as far from accented emo as it's possible to get -- they have far more in common, sonically speaking, with groups like the Young Gods, Killing Joke and Joy Division. Bands like Girls Against Boys, Cop Shoot Cop, Helmet and Shellac come to mind.

Due to combined past diverse elements, Point has found itself on a similar path as groundbreaking bands from 4AD and Dischord. Though inspired by 90's sounds Point is not engaging on a sentimental journey but rather cutting a new swath with an extraordinary balance between English fragility and American intensity.

Sounding like Paul Newman and Dianogah, you can't really fault what C are doing. This is a good little record, and definitely something you should give a chance if you're into the whole post-hardcore instrumental style. According to Splendid Magazine C could just as easily have been a Jade Tree or Thrill Jockey band.

Bridging the gap between Sonic Youth, Spiritualized, Warser Gate, Can and Mother Goose. Could you think of anything that represents a postmodern mix at the end of the millenium better than a peaceful, romantic heartache mixed with hard electronic guitar riffs, secret codes vs. nature and symbiotically being predatorily honest?
